How To Play Blackjack

Blackjack has some of the best odds in gambling.  Even a beginner can play winning blackjack.   The catch is, you must play right to win Blackjack!    It is always best to play Basic Strategy.  This is not the same as mimicking the dealer’s method of holding at 17, and so on – this method is a losing proposition for the player, who draws (and busts) be
fore the dealer’s cards are played.

There are many basic strategies for blackjack, depending on the casino’s rules and the number of decks used. The basic strategy outlined here is based on the four-deck game as played in Las Vegas. The object of the game is to beat the dealer with a total equal to or less than 21, without going over 21 or bust.
For hard hands, if the player’s cards amount to 12 or higher, there are three rules:

  • Hit if the player hand totals 12 through 16 and the dealer has a seven or higher
  • Stand on any hand totaling 17 or higher.
  • Stand if the player cards total 12 through 16 and the dealer has two through six.

For soft hands there are only two:

  •  Always draw to soft 17 or less.
  •  Only draw on soft 18 if the dealer has an eight, nine or ten.

Doubling down involves doubling your wager and getting one more card when you feel strongly that you will beat the             dealer when doing so.

  • Always split 8’s or 7’s against a dealer’s card of equal or lower value.
  • Always split 2’s or 3’s against a 4, 5, or 6.
  • Always split aces.
  • Never split face cards, 10’s, or 5’s.  Never buy insurance, unless you are an experienced card counter.
